There is an apparent need to implement teleworking in the Mauritian society both as a novel concept of work and as a mean of addressing unexpected problems that can suddenly hamper the economic activity of the nation. The lockdown period that spanned nearly two months due to COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that teleworking, in the form of a makeshift approach, enabled society to continue working in sectors that could effectively link the household with the workplace through workstations and Internet connection. A survey was initiated among a sample of 50 respondents comprising part-time students attending the Université des Mascareignes who were working people and were obliged to undertake teleworking from their home. The research revealed a potential need for teleworking with characteristics like lesser disruption, time saving, the ability to better manage work life experience and productivity. In a contrary way, there were reservations regarding the lack of support from management, connectivity problems as well as remoteness and isolation felt from working at home. Prospects regarding the viability and application were high through an impending prospect that the enactment of teleworking would make this approach to work a reality in the near future.
